Authorities say they are conducting a sexual misconduct investigation involving a police officer in Harrisville.

The Standard-Examiner in Ogden reports that Police Chief Maxwell Jackson said Tuesday that the officer was placed on leave after investigators opened a criminal investigation into the allegations.

The officer's name has not been released, and officials haven't provided more detail on the allegations.

Ogden police are conducting the investigation. The officer went on leave about a week and a half ago.

Harrisville is a town of about 6,000 people located about 45 miles north of Salt Lake City.
