Mild temperatures are expected to continue across Utah on Tuesday, with strong southwest winds gusting across much of the state.

National Weather Service (NWS)forecasters expect the wind to top 40 mph, ahead of a winter storm expected to bring rain and snow to Utah, southern Idaho and western Wyoming just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Winter weather is expected to arrive late Wednesday afternoon and continue overnight, with the potential to snarl travel on what is typically the busiest travel day of the year, NWS said.

"In general we definitely recommend you allow more time to make it to your destination," NWS forecaster Eric Schoening said in an agency forecast posted on YouTube.

The forecast suggests the heaviest snow impacts will be north and east of Salt Lake City,
