A winter weather advisory is in effect for northeast Utah on Friday morning, though it won't affect those living in the Salt Lake Valley.

Rain is expected in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas through the morning. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the surrounding mountains, where snow totals could reach three to eight inches and winds could gust between 25 and 35 mph. Gusts of up to 60 mph are expected on exposed ridge lines on the northern and central Wasatch mountains and the western Uinta mountains.

The weather service advises that those traveling in that area use caution, especially over Logan Summit, Monte Cristo, Mirror Lake Highway and the upper Cottonwood Canyons.

The rain and snow is expected to taper off by mid-morning. High temperatures in Salt Lake City are expected to reach 46 degrees on Friday.

For the weekend, the skies are expected to be clear and the high temperatures will hover in the upper 40s.

In St. George, temperatures will continue to reach the mid-60s on Friday and through the weekend.
