Stacey M. Snyder has been appointed as the new director of the Utah Office of Guardian ad Litem.

Snyder replaces Elizabeth Knight who was appointed by Gov. Gary Herbert as a judge in the 3rd District Juvenile Court. A job search was conducted by the Utah Judicial Council's Guardian ad Litem Oversight Committee.

The Office of the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is charged with representing the best interests of children in cases of abuse, neglect and dependency. Snyder will oversee 41 attorneys working as guardians ad litem throughout the state.

Prior to her appointment, Snyder served for eight years as a GAL attorney in the 2nd and 3rd judicial districts. Prior to this, Snyder was the associate general counsel in the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel where she staffed the Health and Human Services Interim Committee as well as the Child Welfare Legislative Oversight Committee

Snyder earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Utah and a Juris Doctorate from the Creighton University.
