Ogden, Utah • Hill Air Force Base's new fire station will also serve as an F-35 crash rescue facility, which safety officials say will keep them prepared in the event of an accident.

The Standard-Examiner reports that construction on the $13 million fire station is set to begin in coming weeks. The 35,000-square-foot facility's close proximity to Hill's flight line will allow emergency personnel unrestricted access to where the fleet of fighter jets will take off and land.

Many of the base's fire operations have been relocated due to the deteriorating infrastructure of the old station, which now sits vacant.

The new facility will include larger bays to hold the fire trucks that will be used for the fighter jets.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
