Investigators have identified the woman's body found last week in the Green River as Michelle Marie Went.

Went, 48, had been living in the town of Green River and was seen around town as recently as Oct. 3, weeks before her badly decomposed body was found, the Emery County Sheriff's Office released Thursday. The cause of her death is still under investigation.

Her remains were spotted Oct. 29 by a paddler on the river about a mile south of Interstate 70. Went's body was recovered from a sand bar near the west bank, the sheriff's office stated.

The sheriff's office could not immediately identify her body and requested the public to call with any leads. After receiving more than two dozen of them, mostly from families of missing persons since the discovery was first reported, the sheriff's office received a call from someone who had not "heard from a friend in some time," the office reported Thursday.

"Following up on this tip, investigators were able to positively identify the body," a sheriff's office news release reads.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives have "a long list of people to talk to," said Janalee Luke, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
