Unified Police, narrowly evading injury from suspected Midvale home invaders' SUV, took one man into custody and continued to hunt for two more suspects Thursday.

UPD Lt. Lex Bell said that two men and a woman burst into a home near 800 West and Lennox Street (7870 South) about 6 p.m. Wednesday, purportedly looking for drugs. During the incident, a male resident was beaten with a baseball bat; he was listed in fair condition Thursday.

UPD officers arrived on the scene just as the suspects were trying to flee the scene in a Jeep Cherokee. As cruisers pulled into the driveway, the Jeep nearly hit two officers as it sped away.

A chase ensued, ending when the Jeep attempted to cross a pedestrian bridge near the Midvalley Elementary School, in the area of 200 East and 7800 South. The Jeep's axle was ripped loose and the suspects ran. Police caught one 35-year-old man, but another man and a woman eluded officers.

The arrested suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where he was being held without bail Thursday on suspicion of felony aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Bell said detectives were working on identification of the man and woman, but indicated the victim apparently was acquainted with at least one of the intruders.
