Economic development prospects in Magna improved Monday with the formal dedication of Universal Forest Products' new manufacturing facility.

The company will produce wood and wood-alternative products at the facility at 3909 S. 8000 West, providing needed employment to local residents and property and sales tax revenues to local and state governments.

Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams joined company officials, Magna residents and county Township Services Executive Director Patrick Leary at a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the plant.

As part of the opening, company officials showed off a meeting-room table made of repurposed wood from the site as an example of what the company produces .
