A domestic dispute, a concerned and frightened neighbor, and gunshots proved more than enough reason for Salt Lake City police to arrest and jail a 21-year-old man.

Police were rushed to the area of 300 West and 800 South about 11 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a 911 call reporting the gunfire.

Officers were told by a neighbor that the suspect had been outside her residence engaged in a loud argument with his girlfriend. When she went out to investigate, at one point offering the girlfriend refuge, the suspect allegedly threatened her by telling her to "watch her back," according to a jail probable cause statement.

He allegedly then fired a handgun once into the air. After the woman went back inside her home, she said she heard a second gunshot.

Officers located and arrested the suspect, who was booked into the Salt Lake County jail. He remained there on Wednesday, being held without bail on suspicion of third-degree felony aggravated assault, and misdemeanor discharging of a firearm within city limits.
