Nearly eight months after a fatal Ogden shooting, Weber County prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the man they say is responsible for the crime.

Isaac Daniel Duran, 23, was charged Friday in 2nd District Court with first-degree-felony murder. He was also charged with a felony-level weapons offense, and two counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

If convicted of the murder charge, Duran could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Court papers say that on the evening of Feb. 23, several people in the 3500 block of Jefferson Avenue. reported hearing two gunshots, a pause, then two more shots. When emergency responders arrived, they found Steven Carroll Ferguson's body next to the driver's side of a car.

An autopsy showed the 34-year-old Ogden resident was shot in the back and once in the arm. A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Charging documents say surveillance video from that evening shows Ferguson arriving alone at a home on that block. Within minutes, he is seen "running back to his vehicle as another male is observed chasing him to the corner of the house and firing a gun at him," the charges say.

Prosecutors say Duran, who had been seen earlier that night with a handgun, was dropped off near the scene not long before the shooting. Afterward, investigators said they found a trail of blood — later identified as Duran's — in an alley behind Jefferson Avenue and leading to Duran's nearby home.

"Witnesses, just after the shots were fired, observed Duran making his way along this alleyway," the charges state. "Duran got a ride from another person to the hospital. He would not explain how he was injured."

Investigators say they later found a revolver tucked inside a blue beanie by Duran's blood, in the alley where witnesses said he fled. The revolver had four spent casings in the cylinder — which matched ammunition that officers found at Duran's home, the charges say.

It wasn't immediately clear on Friday whether Duran had an attorney or if he was in custody. An initial court appearance is set for Tuesday in Ogden's 2nd District Court.
