The Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of driving drunk after he crashed his pickup truck on Interstate 15 in north Salt Lake City, seriously injuring himself and a passenger.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving his Ford Ranger north on I-15 near 600 North about 2:20 a.m. Sunday when it drifted right and off the roadway, striking a crash barrier near an off-ramp.

The suspect, a Cottonwood Heights man, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he was placed under arrest.

His passenger, a 20-year-old St. George woman, also was transported to IMC, in fair condition.
