A TRAX train hit and killed a man in Murray on Friday.

A medical crew was working on the man who was unconscious and not breathing after a train hit him Friday night at about 4500 South 100 West, the Murray Police Department said. He died at the scene, according to UTA spokesman Remi Barron.

The man, 61-year-old Donald Leroy Brown, was crossing the tracks in a powered wheelchair when "his wheel became stuck and he was hit and killed," Barron said. "We believe the crossing arms were down and the red lights were flashing when he tried to cross the tracks."

Barron said Brown was accompanied by a female companion.

"Witnesses say she tried to assist him," Barron said.

Trains were delayed, and a bus bridge was implemented between Meadowbrook and Fashion Place stations.

Barron urged people to take care when crossing any train tracks.

"We urge the public to pay attention and please not try to cross when the arms are down and the lights are flashing," the spokesman said.
