Logan police were hunting Thursday for an "armed and dangerous" suspect who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with the butt of a handgun. The gun went off, but no one was wounded.

Police Chief Gary Jensen said that 31-year-old Ryan D. Joe, eluded officers and a SWAT team that rushed to the area of the Blackhawk Condominiums, 95 W. 100 South, about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. By 4 a.m. Thursday, the search was called off and bulletins issued to area law enforcement to be on the lookout for the suspect.

First District Court records show that Joe has a long, mostly drug-related criminal history. He currently is on probation for a December 2014 second-degree felony drug distribution conviction.

He also is on probation from a fleeing police conviction, for which he initially had been sentenced to a year in jail in Box Elder County.

When last seen, Joe was wearing a blue Dallas Cowboys football jersey and dark shorts. He has long black hair, black facial hair, wears glasses and is of husky build.

Logan police ask that anyone with information on Joe's whereabouts call 435-753-7555.
