Wasatch Elementary School students got a rare, close look at a moose, and Provo police got to test their roundup skills. It turned out fine for kids, cops and the antlered beastie, alike.

Police got a 911 call at 8:09 a.m. Wednesday reporting that the full-grown moose was on the loose in the area of 1450 E. Oak Cliff Drive. From there, the prime specimen of Alces alces meandered westbound through residential neighborhoods, and as officers arrived tried to enter the school grounds.

Police were able to shoo the moose into a vacant church parking lot until Utah Division of Wildlife officers arrived and shot the animal with a tranquilizer gun.

Once successfully subdued, DWR officials loaded the moose unto a trailer and released it later in the day at an undisclosed wildlands location.
