An elderly woman died in a fiery, three-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on State Road 73 in Utah County.

The crash, between the communities of Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs, was reported just before 6 a.m., according to Saratoga Springs Public Safety spokesman Owen Jackson.

A 29-year-old woman was driving westbound on SR-73 when she drifted left of the center line and collided with a car driven by Lillian Strickland, 72, of Cedar Fort, who was killed on impact. A third vehicle then plowed into the wreckage, but its occupants escaped with minor injuries.

The 29-year-old woman was in fair condition at American Fork Hospital, Jackson said.

Three lanes were closed between Redwood Road and Pioneer Crossing. The Utah Department of Transportation estimated the roadway would not be cleared of wreckage until 11 a.m.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
