Unified Police were looking for two suspects after a late-Wednesday night drug-related argument inside a car ended with the driver shot and a passenger jumping from the moving vehicle and running for his life in Taylorsville.

The car, described as a black Nissan Infiniti, was traveling near 1300 W. Atherton Drive (4375 South) with four people aboard — two in the front and two in the back. About 11 p.m., an argument began and one of the passengers shot the driver. That was when the third passenger leaped from the car, which was moving at 30-35 mph.

The driver, who was not identified, had been upgraded from critical to serious condition Thursday afternoon at an unspecified hospital.

The suspects, described only as Latinos, remained at large.

UPD Lt. Jared Richardson, noting that the area where the shooting occurred is home to numerous apartment complexes and a school, said investigators feared the suspects may have tossed the firearm where it could be found by a child.

Police also were looking into whether the incident may have been related to another shooting, about the same time, at a Smith's Market at Redwood Road and 4100 South. A man there was shot in the leg.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
