A Plain City man has been charged with robbing a Salt Lake City bank and pretending to have a bomb.

Curtis Crosby, 30, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and use of a hoax weapon of mass destruction, a second-degree felony.

On Sept. 17, Curtis Crosby demanded money from a teller at the U S Bank at 2243 E. 2100 South, and "displayed what appeared to [her] to be some sort of explosive device," according to the charges.

"He had in his hands some type of device with wires running from it to some other device he had in his fanny pack," the charges read.

The teller complied, handing over a bag of money and a tracking device, and he fled.

After his car was allegedly found on the University of Utah campus, the school warned the public to stay away from the Eccles Broadcast Center while campus and Salt Lake City police searched for the man. They found him the next day in Layton and arrested him.
