A Riverton home was evacuated Thursday night while city engineers worked to determine what caused part of a grassy slope to slide within feet of the residence.

The engineers were placing markers at the landslide site, 12458 S. Tithing Drive (about 1000 West), to monitor any more movement, according to Rob Morley, a Unified Fire Authority paramedic. He said the 30-foot-wide slide, which occurred about 2 p.m. Thursday, came within 10 feet of the home's attached deck.

Morley said residents of homes on a tiered area above the slide have reported finding water in their basements and window wells from an unknown source.
