Ogden • Thieves who stole copper tubing from a Salvation Army freezer in Ogden have caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1VtTzRG) director of operations, Bub Fowers, says thieves had to jump a fence to reach the freezer full of meat. After the theft, the refrigerated storage unit became hazardous waste and required special treatment for disposal.
The theft was reported Aug. 14. According to a police report, the food was valued above $8,000 and was intended for people in need.
Administrative assistant, Sandra Taylor, says services haven't been interrupted. Food boxes were distributed Monday, which was the last day for clients to receive monthly food assistance.
The agency is shutting its food box program down for a month while it moves to a new facility.
