West Valley City police say what appeared to have been a crash-and-run turned into a fatal hit-and-run late Thursday night on Bangerter Highway.

Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said officers on Friday were looking for a dark-colored Toyota Tercel passenger car, with front-end damage, that struck the victim — after he had crashed in a single-car accident, about 9:40 p.m., into the median of Bangerter Highway near 3750 South.

Witnesses said the victim, identified as 50-year-old Bruce Reutner, of West Valley City, had begun to run from the crash site and was crossing the highway eastbound when the Toyota hit and killed him.

The 1995-97 model Toyota did not stop, but left pieces of its bumper and front grill behind.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call WVCPD at 801-840-4000.
