A fuel spill temporarily shut down northbound Interstate 15 in Midvale on Thursday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday, a dump truck hit a mattress box spring near 7200 South and ruptured both of its fuel tanks, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. Those tanks typically hold about 100 gallons a piece, but it wasn't immediately clear how full the tanks were, Royce said.

Troopers shut down all of the northbound lanes I-15 for a short time, but have since reopened two lanes.

A hazardous materials crew was trying to clean up the mess before reopening the rest of the freeway, Royce said.
