Carbon County's emergency operations director found himself in jail after being arrested for alleged theft this week.

Jason Llewelyn, a certified officer with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, was booked into neighboring Emery County's jail on Tuesday. He remained behind bars in Castle Dale on Wednesday, in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Llewelyn's boss, Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood, announced the arrest, and said that Llewelyn also had been placed on unpaid administrative leave. However, he did not release specifics on the allegations against the 10-year sheriff's office veteran, except to indicate they involved credit card fraud and misuse of public funds.

"The Carbon County Sheriff's Office takes all allegations of misconduct by its officers very seriously. All allegations are investigated thoroughly according to the department's administrative policies. Formal charges are being screened by the Carbon County Attorney's Office," Wood stated.

"There are still many unanswered questions regarding this situation involving Mr. Llewelyn and due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, many of these questions cannot be answered at this time," the sheriff added.
