The Unified Police Department is requesting the public's help in locating a man who broke into a Taylorsville home on Monday, attacked the woman who lived there and stole her car.

At about 8:15 a.m., the woman arrived at her home, located near 1520 W. Brookbury Way (4720 South), after dropping her child at school and noticed the window to her child's bedroom had been broken.

When she entered, the suspect — a white male in his mid-30's, with short brown hair, no shirt, and wearing a tool belt and blue jeans — came out of her bathroom and ran toward the front door.

As he ran by her, he demanded the keys to her car. The victim refused and the suspect attacked her, forcefully taking the keys from her hand.

While calling 911 for help, the woman she noticed her car — a white 2011 Ford Escape four-door SUV, UT license # D944XT — was gone.

Responding officers found that the suspect apparently cut himself, leaving blood on the broken glass and on the victim's arm. Samples of the blood were collected for evidentiary purposes.

The UPD is asking anyone with information about the suspect or the stolen car to contact the dispatch center at 801-743-7000.
