A Weber County sheriff's deputy is under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while he was off-duty.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was placed on administrative leave. He's accused of assaulting a female acquaintance, who notified the Ogden Police Department about two weeks ago, said sheriff's Chief Deputy Klint Anderson.

Anderson added that the alleged assault occurred while the deputy was off duty and "is not connected to work, at all."

The sheriff's office placed the deputy on leave Friday morning once they realized the allegation was going to receive publicity, which would interfere with the deputy's ability to work, Anderson said.

Anderson pointed out that after two weeks, his office has yet to hear any evidence to substantiate the accusation.

"We're kind of weighing that," Anderson said, adding that they would "hate to put [a deputy] on paid leave, pay him not to work, when nothing comes of [the accusation]."

Anderson added that both the woman and the deputy are entitled to a thorough investigation.

Ogden police have interviewed both the accuser and the deputy, and expect to conclude the investigation during the week ahead, Anderson said. At that point, an internal investigation will begin "in earnest" to determine if the deputy violated any sheriff's office policies, Anderson added.

Anderson declined to say how long the deputy has been employed.
