Hurricane, Utah • Deputies in southern Utah have arrested a Wyoming man that they say led police on a chase outside Zion National Park before barricading himself in a cabin and threatening officers with a crossbow.
The incident began Saturday afternoon when a fight was reported in the city of Hurricane and one of the suspects drove off in a white pickup truck, according to Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. David Crouse.
Crouse said deputies later spotted the truck heading east on State Route 9 near Hurricane and tried to pull it over. The driver, 40-year-old Brady Leon Warner of Wyoming, fled, Crouse said.
Police from the city of Springdale and officers with the Utah Highway Patrol, Bureau of Land Management and Zion National Park joined deputies in the chase, which they stopped around the western edge of the national park when Warner turned on a street with construction and people nearby.
Someone later reported seeing the truck headed north of the town of Virgin on a road in the Smith's Mesa area outside the park.
Crouse said authorities then found Warner at a cabin where he was armed with a crossbow and threatened to shoot any officers who came near.
A SWAT team and police negotiators arrived and spoke with Warner until he surrendered around 6:30 p.m., Crouse said.
Warner was being held in the Washington County Jail on Sunday on charges of disorderly conduct, fleeing police, weapons violations and other crimes.
He has not yet been charged and does not have a listed attorney.
Crouse said Warner is wanted in Wyoming for several drug-related warrants.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office did not return messages Sunday seeking information about the initial fight or the owner of the cabin.
