A wildfire is burning through a sage grouse habitat in Tooele County.

The fire began when lightning struck a juniper tree about 5 p.m. Friday, a few miles southwest of Rush Valley, before spreading overnight through grass and other junipers, said Bureau of Land Management spokesman Andrew Atkinson. By Saturday evening, the blaze — dubbed the Berry Fire — had grown to 175 acres.

Though the 75 firefighters trying to contain the fire have yet to rein it in, the weather is on their side.

"The winds have died down considerably. We basically don't have any wind, now," said Atkinson, watching the fire slow down significantly from his vantage point at the Rush Valley town limits. "The sun's going down too, so the [temperature] is dropping."

Though there are buildings in the area, none are immediately threatened.
