One man is in jail and police were hunting for two more after a high-speed chase involving a stolen pickup truck came to a crashing halt in Kearns early Friday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said officers also recovered two handguns allegedly tossed from the white Ford F-150, which was carjacked from West Valley City overnight. WVCPD officers had then spotted the truck near 3100 South and 4400 West, and when they attempted to pull it over the suspects sped away.

UPD was asked for assistance as the chase extended into neighboring Kearns. After dodging police tire spikes, the truck eventually crashed into a fence near 6000 South and 4600 West about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Three men bailed out of the vehicle and ran.

The 19-year-old driver was caught, but two other male suspects eluded a subsequent search that included UPD, WVCPD and canine units.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the incident began in the 7100 West block of Palomino Drive (about 2650 South) when the victim was approached by the masked, gun-toting suspects. They demanded his keys and a cellphone before driving off with his vehicle.

Anyone with information on the suspects' whereabouts is asked to call WVCPD at 801-840-4000.
