A man suffered serious injuries after he fell about 40 feet near the Bell Canyon waterfall.

A physician reportedly saw the 28-year-old man fall at the lower waterfall Saturday afternoon, said Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen. The physician tended to the man and relayed his vitals to the rescuers while they hiked up the Sandy-area canyon to their location.

A helicopter later lifted the man out of the canyon, and he was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition, with head and back injuries, Hansen said.
