A man, a teenage boy and the boy's mother died and another man and woman were critically injured in a late Tuesday night multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 near the Utah-Salt Lake county line.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said that about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday a northbound 2009 Honda Accord, possibly speeding in a construction zone between Lehi and Point of the Mountain, rear-ended a stopped Toyota van; a pickup truck and semi-trailer rig were involved in subsequent chain-reaction collisions.

The driver of the Honda, 59-year-old Dale Orton, of Sandy, was rushed to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Killed in the van were Deeann Colbree, 53, and 16-year-old Keegan Colbree, both of Layton.

Additionally, the van's adult male driver and a female juvenile were taken to Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi, where they were listed in critical condition on Wednesday.

Royce said that while Orton was not wearing a seat belt, the other victims were believed to have been using seat restraints at the time of the crashes.
