Work is about to begin to add protected bike lanes to 200 West in downtown Salt Lake City, and to resurface that street and redesign its metered parking.

The city says it intends to begin the work this week, after installation of a new gas main there, and the project should be completed in October.

Pavement on the street will be re-sealed between North Temple and 900 South.

After the pavement work, curbs and planters will be installed to separate bike lanes from vehicle traffic. Angled on-street parking will be added between 200 South and 400 South. And public art will be added in the project area.

The city said in a press release that new configurations "will accommodate the demand for vehicle traffic and maintain parking, while better accommodating downtown trips made by foot or bicycle."
