Police have identified the man who was found dead Saturday morning in West Valley City.

Police identified Steven Louis Valdez, 63, as the man whose body was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

"We are still sorting through the case and how he was involved," a Sunday news release from the police department reads.

About 1:15 a.m. Saturday, dispatchers received a call about a fight near 4100 South and 4985 West, and a separate call about gunshots, said Sgt. Justin Wycoff.

When officers arrived, they found a sliding glass door open to the backyard, leading into the kitchen. There were obvious signs of a struggle, and officers found Valdez's body after they went inside the house, according to police.

Investigators later learned that "up to three" people, described as wearing all black, with bandannas on their faces, allegedly forced their way into the home, according to the release. They reportedly confronted the homeowner and the man, and at some point, "one or more of the subjects is believed to have fired a gun multiple times inside of the residence," the release adds.

They then allegedly fled from the home in a large, dark-colored, Suburban-style SUV.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
