A teenage boy from Lehi died Friday after crashing his dirt bike in Five Mile Pass.

Thayer Dajon Kelly, 15, was riding his dirt bike in the Bureau of Land Management's Five Mile Pass recreation area west of Lehi, a popular spot for off-roaders, said Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. Kelly was in an old railroad grade when he crashed about 11:50 a.m.

"Somehow as he went over the top, [then] he crashed on the downside on this old railroad bed… exactly how that happened, we don't know," Cannon said, adding that investigators have no witnesses.

Kelly's cousin, however, found him and ran to get help from another relative. Family members performed CPR on the boy until emergency responders from Cedar Fort, Unified Fire Authority and Eagle Mountain arrived. Paramedics took over the life-saving efforts while a medical helicopter was en route, but Kelly died at the scene.

He was weaing a helmet, but still suffered head and chest injuries, Cannon said.
