Unified Police were hunting for two suspects who drove a car up to a Taylorsville apartment complex in Tuesday's predawn darkness, got out and fired a hail of bullets before speeding away.

An estimated 15-20 shots were fired at 4:03 a.m., one of the bullets entering an infant's bedroom in one of the apartments at 4545 S. Atherton Dr. (1100 West). No one was reported injured, according to police dispatchers.

UPD officers responding to the scene found numerous shell casings outside the building. Most of the bullets impacted on a brick wall, but several shots went through a window and into the bedroom of the 11-month-old baby, as well as a second bedroom where a 2-year-old child was asleep, said UPD Deputy Chief Justin Hoyal.

It was not immediately known if the shooters — described initially only as males — were specifically targeting that apartment. However, witnesses reported seeing them flee in a silver passenger car, possibly a Honda or Hyundai.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
