A former Utah State University football player who pleaded guilty to the sexual battery of a female escort was sentenced to jail Tuesday.

Gregory Hayden Weichers, 20, pleaded guilty as charged in April to third-degree felony distribution of a controlled substance and class A misdemeanor sexual battery.

Weichers admitted in court papers that on Oct. 23, 2014, he "gave a small amount of marijuana to another person," and then touched that person's breasts "under circumstances I should have known might cause affront or alarm to the person touched."

Logan police authorities said in a press release in March that the victim came to Logan "to perform escort services." The victim told police she was raped in a hotel room and that she felt the marijuana the perpetrator had given her was laced with other drugs, according to a police report.

On Tuesday, 1st District Judge Brian Cannell sentenced Weichers to spend 15 days in the Cache County jail, and ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine. The judge also ordered the former wide receiver to write a letter of apology to the victim, according to defense attorney Edward Brass.

Weichers — who was suspended in early November for violating team rules — is expected to report to jail by Aug. 7.
