A 20-year-old stabbing victim's condition was upgraded to serious on Sunday, and Salt Lake City police say he is now expected to recover.

SLCPD Lt. Mike Ross said the victim, whose name was not released, had been in very critical condition after being stabbed in the chest late Saturday afternoon. Following surgery, doctors on Sunday said his condition had stabilized and he was improving.

Detectives hope to question the man on Monday to better identify a suspect or suspects in the attack, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Cove Apartments, near 1700 West and 1300 North.

Police and paramedics responding to a 911 call found neighbors attempting CPR on the man as he lay on the grass in front of apartment complex.
