A Vernal man died early Saturday from injuries suffered after he became pinned between a camper and a vehicle while camping in Daggett County.

Ryan Gardiner, 40, was in the Greens Draw area of the Ashley National Forest when the accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Daggett County Sheriff's Office news release.

Gardiner suffered serious internal injuries, but was initially alert and able to speak with paramedics who responded to the accident,the sheriff's office said. His condition deteriorated quickly and paramedics were unable to stabilize him for transport to a Vernal hospital. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m. Saturday.

The accident remains under investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.
