A Layton man has been charged with attempted murder on allegations that he beat his girlfriend with a frying pan and stabbed her.

In charges filed Tuesday, police wrote that during a dispute June 28, the man beat the woman over the head with a frying pan, denting the pan. He also choked her and threw a glass vase at her head with such force that, after it hit her head, it put a hole in the wall, police wrote.

The man then held a 3-inch paring knife to the victim's throat and then stabbed her in the side with it, police wrote.

The man, 22, was charged in 2nd District Court with first-degree felony attempted murder and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
