A motorcycle driver was killed Tuesday afternoon when he collided with a semi truck in Salt Lake City.

The motorcyclist was westbound on 1730 South at about 4 p.m. when he hit the side of the cab of the eastbound truck, which was making a left turn into a business parking lot at 4446 West, said Salt Lake City police Det. Greg Wilking.

The motorcycle driver, a man in his 40s, was dead at the scene, said Wilking, who added that the man's name would not be released until next-of-kin was notified.

Wilking said Tuesday it was too early in the investigation to assign fault.

He said there was a helmet at the scene, but it was not immediately know if the victim was wearing it at the time of the crash.
