Prosecutors say a Utah man stalked his wife for nine years by sending her up to 40 harassing emails a day.

KUTV news reported Monday that the 49-year-old Lindon man is facing 10 counts of stalking.

Investigators say the woman turned to her husband for support when she started getting emails claiming someone was following her and threatening to sexually assault her.

Charging documents state that the man acknowledged sending the messages from fake accounts because he was angry over purported infidelity. The couple is now separated and the woman has a protective order.

A defense attorney for the husband did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the case.

The Associated Press is not naming the suspect or his wife to avoid identifying an alleged victim of domestic assault.
