Salt Lake City police identified Benjamin Carson as the man who died in a motorcycle crash Thursday.

The 28-year-old man was driving north on 700 East near 2400 South and the freeway underpass just after 3 a.m. when a vehicle in front of him slowed for a red light. The motorcyclist crashed into the back of the vehicle and suffered a "critical head injury," according to a police news release.

Carson died at a local hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, Detective Greg Chipping said Thursday.
