A Texas man has been identified as the victim of a fatal auto-pedestrian accident on Victory Road last weekend, Salt Lake City police said Tuesday.

Adrian Gonzalez, 23, of Brownsville, Texas, was killed at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car while apparently sitting or kneeling or lying in the street at 771 N. Victory Road, police say.

The man, wearing all black clothing, was in the southbound lane and struck by a southbound vehicle, Ross said.

The driver, who called police, did not appear to be impaired or speeding, police have said.

Salt Lake City police Det. Greg Wilking said Tuesday there were no other witnesses to the accident and that police did not know why Gonzalez was in the roadway.

"We don't know all the pieces," Wilking said, adding that a toxicology report will eventually determine if Gonzales was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.

Wilking said Gonzalez was not a transient. He said he had a job and had been residing in the Salt Lake area "for a while."
