The University of Utah's governing board is getting a new member.

Steven Price joins the U.'s Board of Trustees on July 1. Price succeeds David Huntsman, who is stepping down to serve The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a mission president in Washington, D.C.

Price is president and founder of Price Realty Group, an industrial real estate company with clients in industries including aerospace, defense and outdoor recreation.

"Steve's understanding of our community and commitment to its success," U. President David Pershing said, "is second to none."

His father, John Price, a former university trustee, was a U.S. ambassador to the Indian Ocean island nations of Seychelles, Mauritius and Comoros. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts' Price Museum Building was constructed with a donation from John and his wife, Marcia Price, an advocate for the arts in Utah.

Steven Price attended the U. part time from 1978 to 1984 before moving to California, where he worked at two radio stations owned by his father: KBEE and KHYV. He graduated from California State University, Stanislaus with a bachelor's degree in organizational communications.

Price has held volunteer leadership positions with the David Eccles School of Business, Health Science Advocates and the President's Club committee. Three of his children are U. alumni.

Price and his family, he said in a prepared statement, are "truly invested" in the U.'s success. He said it was an honor to join the board.

Price is on the boards of the Salt Lake City Police Foundation, the John and Marcia Price Family Foundation, EDCUtah and World Trade Center Utah.
