A volunteer Tooele High School track coach has been charged with sexually abusing a 15-year-old student.

Terrence Boone Johnson, 21, was charged in 3rd District Court on Thursday with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, for which he could face up to 15 years in prison. He was also charged with sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree felony, which carries a potential zero-to-5-year-sentence.

Sometime in May, Johnson and the student were in the basement of his Tooele home when he allegedly sexually abused her, according to the charges.

After the girl reported the abuse on Wednesday, a Tooele city police officer arrested Johnson.

After waiving his Miranda rights, Johnson told police that he and the victim "started 'making out' after she asked him to pick her up from the school one day," according to the charges.

Johnson was booked into Tooele County Jail. He does not have a court appearance scheduled.

Johnson has no prior criminal history in Utah, according to a search of court records.
