An arrest warrant has been issued for a Clearfield man who failed to appear in court in connection with allegedly killing a woman by punching her during a fight at a New Year's Eve party.

Alcario Jesus Archuleta-Valdez, 32, is charged in 2nd District Court with one count of third-degree felony charge of homicide by assault for the death of 34-year-old Bobbie Jo Barnett, also of Clearfield.

Judge David Connors signed a no-bail warrant Wednesday after Archuleta-Valdez missed a Wednesday morning pre-trial conference.

Archuleta-Valdez was at a party with Barnett on Jan. 1 when a fight broke out between two other people, according to charging documents.

After the fight, the victim walked toward where Archuleta-Valdez was standing. Archuleta-Valdez, who was drunk, "then turned around and punched the victim, which caused the victim to fall and hit her head," investigators wrote.

Police say Barnett stood up and walked around immediately after the punch, but two days later complained of a bad headache and was taken to hospital where she died of head trauma, according to the Associated Press.

Archuleta-Valdez last appeared in court on May 5, when he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Court records show he also has violated probation in two 2014 cases — in which he had pleaded guilty to felony counts of failing to stop for police, criminal mischief and attempted theft by receiving — by failing to check in with Adult Probation & Parole officers.
