FrontRunner commuter trains may experience delays over the next several weeks because of nearby maintenance work on Union Pacific tracks.

Union Pacific is replacing railroad ties and doing other maintenance work in areas between Salt Lake City and Ogden.

The Utah Transit Authority says that because of the proximity of Union Pacific's tracks to the FrontRunner alignment, trains will slow to 40 mph through construction areas, possibly causing brief delays.

Union Pacific work is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and is not expected to affect early morning commuters.

UTA said any delays will affect FrontRunner trains only between Ogden and Salt Lake City, and trains will make up lost time at the Salt Lake City Central station and proceed south to Provo without delays from the construction.

UTA notes that federal regulations also require FrontRunner operators to sound horns as they travel through construction areas as a safety procedure to protect workers along the tracks.
