A Saratoga Springs man was arrested Monday on suspicion of arson after a fire at his home killed a pet cat and a rabbit.

The man, 23, was alone with two dogs, two cats and a rabbit at his home, near Range Road and Centennial Boulevard, when the fire began about 2:20 p.m., said Saratoga Springs Fire Chief Jess Campbell.

The dogs escaped the fire, and fire crews revived one of the cats; the other cat and the rabbit died in the fire, Campbell said.

In the course of the investigation, the man, who lives with his parents at the house, "made statements" indicating he used an accelerant to start the fire, Campbell said.

He was booked into jail.

The fire caused about $75,000 in damage.
