The death of a man whose body was found near the Jordan River on Monday has been ruled a homicide, Salt Lake City police announced Thursday.

Two witnesses located the body of 36-year-old Anthony Paul Hernandez on the east bank of the Jordan River, off a trail near 800 North and Riverside Drive (about 1460 West), police said.

"After reviewing the scene and what they had, [investigators] felt confident to be able to go with the homicide investigation," said Detective Veronica Montoya.

Earlier Thursday, police said they had located and questioned a person of interest in the case, 22-year-old Christian Fuentes.

He was not arrested, Montoya said.

Police have not said if they have any suspects.
