John Thurgood — a Roy man who went missing on Sunday — was found alive on Monday, but later died at a hospital.

"Mr. Thurgood passed away at 3 a.m. this morning," Roy Police Detective Jason Vanderwarf confirmed Tuesday.

Thurgood, 82, was last seen Sunday behind the wheel of his blue Toyota pickup truck.

Police on Monday issued a missing and endangered person advisory for the man, noting that he had Alzheimer's disease.

He was located alive on Monday, about 50 miles south of Park Valley, Utah, by a couple of Union Pacific Railroad employees, and was airlifted to Ogden Regional Hospital.

His cause of death was not immediately known.

The man's Chihuahua was found with him, alive.
