Salt Lake City's successful nonprofit bike sharing program, GREENbike, is expanding again.
Five new stations will bring to 25 the number of places around downtown where you can hop on a bike, ride to a destination and deposit the two-wheeler for as little as $5 a day.
GREENbike was launched in April 2013 by SelectHealth and the Downtown Alliance. The program started with 10 stations and 55 bikes. Today, GREENbike stations have 210 bicycles.
The new stations were funded by a $176,000 grant from the Wasatch Front Regional Council, $75,000 from the Salt Lake City Council and $75,000 the Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency.
GREENbike also has expanded four popular existing stations at Harmons (100 S. State), the Salt Palace (200 S. West Temple), Phillips Edison & Company (353 S. Main) and the Union Pacific Depot (360 W. 200 South).
For $5, a rider gets unlimited 30-minutes rides during a 24-hour period. At $75, a rider gets unlimited one-hour rides for one year.
Greenbike also offers an Office Pass Program where rates can be reduced to $25 per annual pass depending on the number of employees.
