Monday night thunderstorms were to cool off toasty northern Utah going into Tuesday, when daytime highs were expected to hover in the upper-70s to low-80s along the Wasatch Front.

Salt Lake City on Monday afternoon hit 90 degrees for the second day in a row, but showers were expected to come along with evening breezes of 10-20 mph.

Utah's Dixie, meanwhile, was living up to its moniker: Tuesday's highs were to be in the low-90s, only slightly cooler than Monday's forecast for daytime temperatures flirting with 100 degrees. Southern Utahns could expect Monday night winds of 15-25 mph to cool off a sweltering day.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated Wasatch Front counties, and southwestern Utah's Washington County, as being in the "yellow," or compromised for air quality extending into the midweek. Only Tooele, Carbon, Duchesne and Uintah counties were "green," or healthy for the period.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website reported only mold at "high" levels on its pollen index as of Monday; all other allergens were "low."
